User Survey to understand preferences in online furniture renting

Objectives and hypotheses

Objectives :

Understand the preferences in the online furniture rental space. Learn about the motivations, pain points and needs of the people when it comes to renting furniture online.

 

Hypotheses :

( These hypotheses were formed with the help of assumptions made after talking to potential users and through online sources about the online furniture rental space)

1. Only people who stay at a place for a short period prefer to rent furniture. It is a more economical option and they save the moving costs.

2. Users are open to renting a piece of furniture that has been used before as long as the quality is not compromised.

 

3. An affordable price point is another important need of the users. They prefer economical designs over superior brands. If renting is cheaper than buying, they would opt for it.

4. They require an online platform to help them make better decisions about their product as they cannot touch and feel the product.

 

5.  Automated / Recurring payments will reduce the hassle in the monthly subscription payment process

The survey was completed by 39 respondents. The majority of people are interested in renting furniture in the future.

Validating the hypotheses

1. Only people who stay in rentals for a short period of the time prefer to rent furniture.

 
The majority of the current users and potential users said this would be their main motivation to rent furniture online.
But a large number also said that they would use the service to change the look of their space often.


2. Users care most about the quality of the product.


Yes, out of the options provided to the users, quality was the most important factor, more than the range of products. Also bad quality was the second most important reason for not opting to rent furniture online.

 

3. An affordable price point is another important need of the users. They prefer economical designs over superior brands. 


In the case of potential users, the majority of the respondents said that they did not rent as they found it to be not economically feasible.
Also, the majority of the respondents said they preferred minimal and economical designs over expensive designs or brands.



4. They require an online platform to help them make better decisions about their product as they cannot touch and feel the product.

In the online platform, the most important features were product reviews/testimonials and product description pages. Also, product comparisons and augmented reality were the most preferred add-on features. This tells us that it is important for the users to understand the products better online to gain trust and make a decision.


 

5.  Making subscription payments easier is important to the users.

This is true as the majority of the current users felt that this will solve a major problem for them.
